Elon Musk said Tesla will rent out its humanoid Optimus robots instead of selling them. The company expects the production cost of each robot to drop from about $30,000 to $20,000 after the initial launch.
Production of Optimus began in October at the Fremont factory, using space freed after Model S and Model X lines were dismantled. Tesla aims for a capacity of up to 1 million units per year, but reaching that scale will take at least a year, with rentals to external customers planned for the end of 2027.
