After updating to iOS 27, iPhone owners reported that video output to external displays via HDMI stops as soon as the device is locked. The issue appears in apps such as YouTube and Netflix, while some apps like VLC continue to work.

Users on Reddit noted that the change is linked to a new iOS mechanism that requires apps to register video sessions on external displays themselves, whereas the system previously granted permission automatically. Apple has not provided a fix yet.
